Detection Of Legionella

Using state-of-the-art sensors for demanding applications

KETEK is the world’s leading manufacturer of silicon drift detectors and also offers silicon photomultipliers for ultra-fast low-light measurements in medical, biological, analytical and nuclear applications including signal processing electronics. KETEK’s innovative sensors are used to analyse the composition of a material’s surface down to the element level with a resolution of one to a billion.

In the Eurostars project “Legiotection“, these sensors were used to build an innovative instrument capable of reliably detecting and counting Legionella bacteria in drinking water. Laser light was used to excite bacteria in water dyed with fluorescent markers, and the luminescence of the bacteria was then measured using KETEK’s technology.

The project “Legiotection“ has received funding by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
