The Portugeuse project “IEoT: Intelligent Edge of Things” combines the innovative power of PDM e FC, Instituto de Telecomunicações and Beyond Vision to take the concept of edge computing to a new level.
The current trend towards an Internet of Things is hampered by today’s cloud systems because all data processing and decision-making logic is handled in data centres. This is not ideal from the viewpoint of performance, efficiency and reliability, security or privacy. The IEoT project provides computational capacity near the source of the data, enabling local data pre-processing, refining and analysis functions that reduce the amount of data sent to cloud servers.
The IEoT project will enable novel services in business areas such as smart transportation, Industry 4.0 and entertainment.
